Textural, vibrant, and unexpected — a Pinot Gris like no other.

About This Wine

Guiding Light is an English Pinot Gris.

Fresh and textured, with blossom, apple, peach and a hint of lemon curd, leading to a lingering finish.

The name celebrates the enduring spirit of Abingworth, where sheep still wander close to the vines and a fire-worn Tudor farmhouse stands at the heart of the land. The ram — drawn from both the estate’s pastoral heritage and the mythic strength of Ares — symbolises resilience, courage, and renewal. The label’s copper detailing reflects the wine’s quiet warmth and refinement, a nod to the light that continues to guide this landscape through centuries of change.

The Finer Details

Wine Profile

Sweetness: Dry, Acidity: High, Alcohol: Medium, Body: Medium Tannins: Low - mineral driven

Tasting Notes

Gentle aromas of white blossom open into a rounded palate of golden apple, comice pear and white peach, with a hint of lemon curd. Fresh and finely textured, it carries through to a lingering finish.

Fruit

100% Pinot Gris

Site

Planted on the south-west side of Greenhurst Field, this 1.2-hectare Pinot Gris block sits lower on the slope, where deeper soils and cooler conditions prevail. Good sun exposure and airflow support steady ripening while retaining freshness and acidity. Planted with three clones, it delivers a range of flavours and textures, resulting in fruit with fine balance .

Soil

Sandy Silt Loam: Sand – 27.93%, Silt – 54.9%, Clay – 17.17%

Vinification

The 2025 Pinot Gris was crafted with a gentle, reductive approach and a layered pressing strategy. Half the fruit was destemmed and half whole bunch pressed, with the juice settled overnight before recombination. Fermentation took place in three vessels: predominantly in concrete egg for texture, with smaller portions in stainless steel and acacia barrel for added aromatic and structural nuance. The wine was aged on lees through winter, building depth and integration, before final blending and bottling in early spring.

Vintage

The 2025 season was warm, dry and notably consistent, providing ideal conditions throughout the growing cycle. Early budburst and a settled flowering period led to strong fruit set, with long, sunny days ensuring steady ripening and minimal disease pressure. The result is a vintage that combines generous ripeness with freshness, structure and poise, reflecting both clarity of site and balance in the fruit.

Food Pairings

This Pinot Gris pairs well with fresh, vibrant dishes that complement its subtle complexity. Try herb-crusted chicken, roasted root vegetables, or citrus and fennel salad. It also works beautifully with seafood such as grilled scallops or lemon butter prawns, while soft cheeses like young goat’s cheese or ricotta highlight its rounded texture and clean finish.
