Hidden Verse Rosé

Still Wine

£23.00

A poetic expression of English Pinot Noir.

About This Wine

Elegant, vibrant, and quietly intriguing — Hidden Verse is our premium still rosé, made from 100% Pinot Noir grown on south-facing Tumbledown Hill. Copper-pink in hue, it opens with aromas of wild strawberry and redcurrant, underpinned by creamy texture, floral lift, and a subtle savoury note. A soft mineral finish brings freshness and finesse.

Inspired by the fable The Ant and the Grasshopper, the name celebrates creativity, joy, and the simple pleasures of living in the moment. The grasshopper — heard throughout the growing season — also nods to the rich musical heritage and natural rhythms of West Sussex. The violin-playing grasshopper on the label captures this spirit of artistry and place.

Crafted with care and minimal intervention, this is a wine designed to sit confidently among the finest English rosés — equally at home at a slow summer lunch or as a thoughtful gift.

Site

Tumbledown Hill A compact 1.8ha south-facing slope, Tumbledown is dedicated to Pinot Noir. Its high sand content ensures excellent drainage, supporting purity and finesse. Steady sunlight and airflow promote slow, even ripening while preserving freshness. It has the highest sand content of any block at Abingworth, providing excellent drainage and contributing to the wine’s finesse and precision. The site’s scale and soil make it ideal for a meticulous, terroir-driven approach.

Soil

Sandy Silt Loam: Sand - 47.42%, Silt - 40.72%, Clay - 11.86%

Vinification

Hand-picked grapes were cold-soaked before gentle pressing. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve freshness, followed by malolactic fermentation for softness. Élevage in tank over winter enhanced texture and clarity. it was gently filtered and bottled in early summer 2025.

Vintage

The 2024 season was cool and wet, with increased downy mildew pressure. Careful canopy management delayed onset, allowing extended hang time for improved phenolic ripeness despite modest sugar levels. The result is a wine shaped by resilience, precision, and patience in the vineyard.

Food Pairings

Grilled seafood, fresh salads, and soft cheeses. Try it alongside poached salmon, a goat’s cheese and beetroot salad, or a simple charcuterie board. For a perfect summer match, enjoy with strawberries and cream or a berry tart.
